The Bank Sohar Visa Debit Electron card looks like any other Visa card, but works differently. You can use it wherever Visa Electron cards are accepted. Since it is a debit card, the limit will be zero and the card will be linked directly to your account at Bank Sohar. Every transaction will result in a direct debit of your account.
- How does a Visa Debit Electron Card work?
Using a Visa Debit Electron Card, the cardholder can withdraw money from an ATM, or sign for purchases at Visa Electron merchant locations and get a receipt. Each purchase is deducted from the cardholder’s account immediately.
- Who is eligible to get a Bank Sohar Visa Debit Electron Card?
The Bank Sohar Visa Debit Electron Card will be given to every customer who has an active savings or current account with the Bank or who opens a savings or current account.
- Where can I use my Visa Debit Electron Card?
You may use your Visa Debit Electron Card to make purchases at over 29 million merchant locations and withdraw cash at over one million ATMs worldwide. The Visa Debit Electron Card can be used locally and internationally wherever Visa Electron cards are accepted.
- How is a Visa Debit Electron Card different from a credit card?
The Visa Debit Electron card looks like a credit card. It has the Visa Electron logo and allows the convenience of cashless purchases like a signature-based credit card. However, for a Visa Debit Electron card, there is no “line of credit” extended. This means that your spending limit is determined by the amount of money that is available in your account.
- What are the advantages of the Visa Debit Electron Card over cash?
The main advantage of Excel Visa Debit Electron Card is the safety of carrying a piece of plastic with access to your cash, versus carrying a fold of bills in your pocket. Cash may be lost or stolen and may be gone forever. With the Visa Debit Electron card your money is safe even if you leave it somewhere so long as you take the precaution of keeping your PIN (Personal Identification Number) away from the card.
- Are there any fees and charges for the Bank Sohar Visa Debit Electron Card?
There is no membership fee for the Bank Sohar Visa Debit Electron Card. It will be issued to customers free of charge. Best of all, because it is a debit card, there are no finance charges, no late fees, and no accumulation of debt.
- Do customers have to pay a fee for cash withdrawal from ATMs?
Customers do not have to pay a fee for cash withdrawal from the OmanSwitch ATMs. Cash withdrawal from any ATMs other than OmanSwitch will be subject to a fee.
- Will my Visa Debit Electron Card have interest or finance charges?
With a Visa Debit Electron card you are not borrowing money and you will not be required to pay interest or finance charges on the card.
- When I use my Visa Debit Electron Card, is the money taken from my account right away?

- How can I keep a track of my spending on a daily basis while using the Visa Debit Electron Card at merchant outlets?
There are two ways of doing this. As a Bank Sohar customer you can sign up at the branch for both Internet Banking and SMS Banking. Using the internet you may access your account on line and take a look at your statement and also take a print out. Alternately, you may sign up for the SMS Banking Services. Once the service is available to you, SMS your request for a pull alert that gives a mini statement, or your account balance. Please approach the branch to sign up and avail of these services.
- What if there is not enough money in my account to cover a purchase?
The transaction will be declined if you do not have enough money in your debit card account.
- What happens if the Visa Debit Electron Card is lost or stolen?
You should call the Bank Sohar Customer Service Center to report the loss or theft of the Visa Debit Electron card. After you have reported the loss of the card to the bank, you are not responsible for any unauthorised transactions that may have occurred on the card. Your lost card will be cancelled at the bank’s desertion.
